Autism Hour

We are proud to be hosting the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour on 8 October 2018 from 10-11am.

Autism is a lifelong disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. There are approximately 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK. Many autistic people and their families say they avoid going to the shops, often because of bright lights, loud noises and a lack of understanding of autism from both fellow customers and staff.

This year we are changing that. We will be joining approximately 5000 other places around the country who will spend 60 minutes creating an autism friendly shopping experience. We’ll be doing this to help make shopping more accessible for autistic people and their families by making simple changes like dimming lights, reducing background noise, and making sure our staff know more about autism.

What will happen in store during our Autism Hour?

During Autism Hour some of our stores we will be:
• Dimming lights
• Turning down music and other noise
• Sharing information with staff about autism

Stores will have a poster in the window if they are able to alter these elements.
